2008 League Rules

LEAGUE FORMAT

  • Season consists of 9 weeks. (1 week of playoffs.)
  • All sets are RALLY POINT SCORING (each serve results in a point for either team).
  • The 1st and 2nd set are played to 21 points (must win by 2 points) with a cap of 23 points.
  • The 3rd set is played until time expires (when whistle blows). If teams are tied, a 1-point tiebreaker decides the winner. Teams must switch sides after each set.
  • A ball toss or coin toss at the beginning of game should be done to determine first serve and side.
  • Any team that forfeits or defaults receives the lowest possible score of 0 points per game. The opposing team will in turn receive 2 points per game missed.
    • 2 points received for each win
    • 0 points received for each loss
  • All teams qualify for playoffs. Teams will be ranked according to win % and these rankings will determine playoff schedule.

League Regulations

  1. Teams must be paid in full before playing on the first night.
  2. Teams are given a 5-minute grace period from the whistle before defaulting a match.
  3. Team captains must report scores on clipboard.
  4. Games not recorded on night of play will be recorded as losses.
  5. Each team may receive 1 ball at the beginning of night. Keys are required as deposit.
  6. League coordinator will notify all team captains a week in advance if games need to be rescheduled.
  7. Matches will NOT be cancelled due to rain, unless there is lightening.
  8. If your team is unable to attend a night, please notify the league coordinator (Robert) at (905) 655-6579 or email Robert@devilsdengolf.com.
  9. Team rosters and waivers must be completed by all participants before playing.
  10. Teams may add players during the season as long as they are added to the team roster.
  11. To be eligible for playoffs, each player must be on the team roster and have played at least 3 weeks in the season.
  12. Individuals may NOT play on 2 teams during the playoffs for the same division.

The league is for fun and all teams should play with that in mind and maintain a high level of sportsmanship. The team captains can discuss any disputed calls only. Please re-serve if unable to resolve quickly.

LEAGUE RULES (Rec. Mixed 6’s)

  • Teams must have a minimum of 4 players playing at all times. Teams must have two women on court at all times unless playing short-handed with five players, in which case only one woman is necessary.
  • You may serve anywhere along the backline within the sidelines. One server may serve only 5 consecutive overhand points. Rotate and same team maintains serve after 5 points. Only 1 service toss is allowed.
  • NO jump serving.
  • Unlimited underhand serves. Only 1 service toss is allowed.
  • Once a player has served 1 overhand serve the 5 count is in effect. (no alternating over-under past 5)
  • NO spiking or blocking a serve.
  • Tipping, pokeys, roll shots, back of hand, heel of hand are legal.
  • A serve that catches the net and goes over is allowed provided it lands within the boundaries.
  • Players cannot screen on a serve. If the opposing team asks a player to move aside so that they can see the server, the opponents must comply.
  • Substitutions are allowed to enter before or after the serving position only.
  • Overhand volleying is allowed on serve receive.
  • 3 hits are allowed per side. A block does not count as a hit.
  • Teams must call their own violations (net, lift, double hits) Ball may be hit with any part of the body.
  • Any net contact will result in a side out for the opposing team.
  • Ball is in if makes any contact with the boundary lines.
  • Both teams are responsible for ensuring that the boundary lines are straight.
  • Players must maintain service rotation.

LEAGUE RULES (Int. Mixed 4’s)

  • Teams must have a minimum of 3 players (1 female) playing at all times. (opposing team may waive this requirement and count the match)
  • You may serve anywhere along the back line within the sidelines. Only 1 service toss is allowed.
  • NO spiking or blocking a serve.
  • No open handed tips. Pokeys, roll shots, back of hand, heel of hand are legal.
  • Open handed digs are LEGAL only when receiving a hard driven ball
  • When serving, any contact between the server and the back court line is NOT permitted and will result in a side-out for the opposing team.
  • A serve that catches the net and goes over is allowed provided it lands within the boundaries.
  • Players cannot screen on a serve. If the opposing team asks a player to move aside so that they can see the server, the opponents must comply.
  • Substitutions are allowed to enter before or after the serving position only.
  • Overhand volleying is allowed on serve receive, but not allowed over the net.

LEAGUE RULES (Advanced Men’s/Open 2’s)

  • For Open 2’s, teams can be made up of 2 men, 2 women of 1 woman and 1 man.
  • If a team cannot field at least 2 players from its roster then the team defaults.
  • Only 1 service toss is allowed.
  • No blocking or spiking on serves.
  • No open handed tips. Pokeys, roll shots, back of hand, heel of hand are legal.
  • Open handed digs are LEGAL only when receiving a hard driven ball
  • When serving, any contact between the server and the back court line is NOT permitted and will result in a side-out for the opposing team.
  • A serve that catches the net and goes over is allowed provided it lands within the boundaries.
  • Players cannot screen on a serve. If the opposing team asks a player to move aside so that they can see the server, the opponents must comply.
  • All players can spike from anywhere on the court and can block.
  • Service rotation must be maintained.
  • Ball cannot be played on the opponent’s side of the net above the height of the net. (except on block vs. attack hits)
  • No centerline violation, however players that cross the net and interfere with the opponents are in violation.
  • 1 time out of 30 seconds per team each game.
